Introduction

Despite the global love for coffee, there is no dedicated platform that seamlessly combines the passion for coffee, community engagement, and sustainability. Coffee Hippies addresses this gap by creating a digital space where coffee lovers can discover their favorite brews, connect with like-minded individuals, and support sustainable practices.

Problem Statement

  1. Community Connection: Foster a sense of belonging among coffee enthusiasts.

  2. Coffee Discovery: Provide an intuitive way to explore and enjoy diverse coffee experiences.

  3. Sustainability Promotion: Highlight eco-friendly practices and encourage user participation.

  4. Scalable MVP: Develop a robust foundation for future feature expansion.

Goals

1. Research

  • Conducted user interviews with coffee lovers to understand their habits, preferences, and frustrations with existing apps.

  • Analyzed competitors like Starbucks and small coffee shop apps to identify unique opportunities for Coffee Hippies.

Design Process

2. Ideation and Planning

  • Created user journey maps to identify pain points and potential opportunities in the coffee experience.

  • Collaborated with stakeholders to prioritize features and establish a realistic MVP scope.

3. Wireframes and Prototyping

  • Developed low-fidelity wireframes focusing on clean navigation and easy access to key features.

  • Created high-fidelity prototypes in Figma to visualize the app’s vibrant, beverage-centered aesthetic.

4. Testing and Refinement

  • Conducted usability testing with a small group of target users to evaluate navigation and clarity.

  • Iterative adjustments included:

    • Simplifying the onboarding process.

  1. Balancing Scope and Functionality: Limiting features to an MVP while retaining core value.

    • Solution: Focused on a minimal feature set that could effectively showcase the app’s potential.

  1. Maintaining a Vibrant Aesthetic: Designing a vibrant interface that still felt professional and user-friendly.

    • Solution: Used warm, earthy tones and playful typography while maintaining clean layouts.

  • Successfully developed an MVP prototype in Figma with positive feedback from stakeholders and test users.

  • Highlighted features like the featured beverages and order status were particularly well-received, with users expressing enthusiasm for future expansions.

Logo concept:

  • The central icon features a stylized coffee cup with three distinct layers, representing the diversity and richness of coffee culture. The minimalist cup design creates a modern, approachable aesthetic while symbolizing warmth, comfort, and a shared passion for coffee.

  • Rising from the cup are dynamic, curving steam lines that evoke the freshness and aroma of a freshly brewed coffee. This detail also symbolizes the warmth and uplifting energy that coffee brings to daily life.

  • The color palette of rich dark brown, earthy light brown, and crisp white embodies the natural tones of coffee and sustainability. The dark brown conveys depth, strength, and the richness of coffee; the light brown evokes comfort; and the white highlights simplicity and balance, ensuring the logo remains clean and visually striking.

The Coffee Hippies project emphasized the value of combining design creativity with functional usability. The focus on sustainability added a layer of purpose to the project, making it a meaningful endeavor. Future improvements could include integrating machine learning to offer personalized coffee recommendations based on user behavior.
